Signup wall is the first real screen, before you see a single trail. Social logins up top (Apple, Google, Facebook) with email pushed below, so most people one-tap in. There's a close X so it's dismissible, but leading with the wall before any value probably costs some completion. I'd test dropping people onto the map first and asking for the account when they go to save a trail.

Alltrails onboarding screen 6: They drop you into the real explore map for a beat before the paywall fires

They drop you into the real explore map for a beat before the paywall fires. It's a skeleton-loading state, so you see the structure (Nearby and Kid-friendly filters, bottom nav) but not real trails yet. A quick taste of the product before the ask beats paywalling cold.

Trial paywall right after signup. Nice touch is the Today / Day 5 / Day 7 timeline: unlock now, reminder on day 5, charged on day 7. Being upfront about the charge and the reminder makes the trial feel safe to start, and it cuts down on surprise cancels. Annual default at $35.99 with 7 days free.

The paywall keeps a Free vs Plus column running the whole way down, so you can see exactly what you give up by staying free (offline maps, 3D, wrong-turn alerts). The 'Fun Fact: 3x more likely to hit the trail' stat ties the subscription to the outcome you want, not a feature. Outcome framing over a plain feature dump.
