Strava App2Web pricing and paywall terms

Web or IAP at the same price: Annual $79.99/year ($6.67/mo, 30-day trial, 'Save 44%') preselected, Monthly $11.99 (30-day trial), Family $139.99/year up to 4 (no trial, billed today on web). Web checkout is the primary button, 'Pay in App' a text link. Strava + Runna $149.99/year is IAP only

The contextual paywall in its first state: 'Try the very best of Strava. First month's on us.' with a vertical timeline (Today, 2 Days before, In 30 days) and one 'Start free trial' button. No price yet. The price and the payment choice only show up in the sheet on the next tap.
Strava App2Web onboarding screen 3: Here's the app2web choice3
Here's the app2web choice. 'Start free trial' carries an external-link icon and is the big orange primary button: it opens strava.com. 'Pay in App' is a text link underneath. 'See All Plans' sits above both. Web is the default and IAP is the fallback, which is the opposite of how most apps did it before the anti-steering rules changed. The icon is an honest touch: you know you're leaving the app.

strava.com checkout: 'Free 30-Day Trial', Billed today $0, Annual subscription $79.99, 'Total billed on Nov 3, 2026, $79.99 + tax', and an Apple Pay button. Same $79.99 as the in-app price, no web discount. Strava keeps the fee savings instead of using them to nudge people to web. The page is minimal and branded, which keeps the context switch from feeling like a different company.
Strava App2Web onboarding screen 9: Apple Pay on the web: 'Pay Strava $0.00', 'Free 30-Day Trial, Starting Now' then 'Annual Subscription $79.99…9
Apple Pay on the web: 'Pay Strava $0.00', 'Free 30-Day Trial, Starting Now' then 'Annual Subscription $79.99, Starting Nov 3, per year', double-click to pay. This is why app2web works on iOS now: Apple Pay in the browser makes the web checkout about as fast as the IAP sheet. The friction is the browser hop, not the payment.

Back in the app after the web checkout, you land on the You tab with an empty week (0 mi, 0m, 0 ft). No confirmation, no 'welcome to your trial'. The return trip is where app2web flows lose people, and a thank-you screen that shows what just unlocked would close the loop.
Strava App2Web onboarding screen 13: The You tab still shows 'Unlock your full potential13
The You tab still shows 'Unlock your full potential. Track your progress and reach your goals with subscription features.' over sample widgets (5K PR, Relative Effort, Training Log). If the web purchase hasn't reflected in the app yet, the user just paid and is still being sold to. Entitlement sync on return is the part of app2web you have to get right.

The Strava + Runna paywall: '60% less than buying separately', one plan at $149.99/year ($12.50/month), 30 days free. Note the 'Start free trial' button here has no external-link icon. The bundle goes through Apple IAP, while the base plan pushes web. They're running app2web on the core plan only.

Settings has a Subscriptions section that leads with a 'Strava + Runna, Up to 60% off, Start with a free 30-day trial' card above 'Your Strava Subscription'. Settings is a surface most apps leave plain, and paying users visit it to manage billing, so it's a decent upsell spot for the bundle.

'What you'll unlock' splits benefits into Runna (training plans 'personalised by your Strava data', paces that evolve, live audio cues, pilates and strength) and Strava (routes, training insights, finish times). 'Personalised by your Strava data' is the line that sells the bundle: your history makes the plan better, which a standalone running app can't say.

After backing out of the bundle purchase, Settings shows a red 'Something went wrong, please try again' banner. Cancelling a purchase isn't an error. Showing one makes the user think they broke something, and it's the last thing you want next to a subscribe button.

'See All Plans' opens 'Select A Plan': Family plan $139.99/year ($2.92/month per person, up to 4 members), Annual 'Save 44%' with a free 30-day trial then $79.99/year, and Monthly with a free 30-day trial then $11.99/month. Annual is preselected. Family plan priced per person is a nice anchor: $2.92 makes $6.67 look reasonable. The web button and 'Pay in App' stay on the same sheet.
Strava App2Web onboarding screen 30: Family plan on the web: '4 Accounts', 'As low as $2.92/mo per person', but 'Billed today $139.99 + tax'30
Family plan on the web: '4 Accounts', 'As low as $2.92/mo per person', but 'Billed today $139.99 + tax'. No trial on Family, while Annual and Monthly get 30 days free. So the web checkout charges full price on the spot for the biggest plan. That's a much harder ask than the $0 Annual flow, and the picker on 28 doesn't make it obvious.

Compare the trial dates across paths: this paywall says 'You won't be charged until Nov 2', web checkout says billed Nov 3, and Apple's IAP sheet says the $79.99/year starts Nov 4. Same plan, same price on web and IAP ($79.99), three different charge dates. Small, but mismatched dates on a trial are what make people worried about getting billed early.
