Opens with a riddle instead of a feature: 'Imagine I told you there was a drug that gave you...' You tap through to find out what the drug is. Curiosity gap that sells the category before the app even shows up.

Rise onboarding screen 3: The drug's benefits: focus, memory, less anxiety, healthier skin, higher libido3
The drug's benefits: focus, memory, less anxiety, healthier skin, higher libido. They're stacking the value of sleep itself so by the time Rise appears you already want what it's selling.

Rise onboarding screen 5: The payoff: the miracle drug is sleep5
The payoff: the miracle drug is sleep. There's a small 'Have an account? Login' up top so returning users can skip out. Signup proper comes way later, after you've felt some value.

Single-select goal, 'choose the one that matters most to you.' Zero-party data that should echo in the schedule and paywall later. I'd test multi-select since plenty of people want better sleep and more productivity, but forcing one does hand them a cleaner primary segment.

Rise onboarding screen 8: Multi-select symptoms with a skip option8
Multi-select symptoms with a skip option. Each tap is a small investment and feeds the personalization. The skip is right on a long checklist, it keeps people from bailing on the whole question.

'How did you hear about Rise' (Instagram, TikTok, podcast, a friend). This one's for them, not you: it backfills the attribution that iOS took away from ad platforms. Fair to ask, just keep it late so it doesn't burn a higher-intent slot.

Multi-select sleep habits, framed as 'Rise provides tools to simplify and optimize your sleep routine.' Each option doubles as a feature tease. Asking what you already do primes you to expect the app to help with exactly that.

The iOS tracking prompt, framed as 'allow tracking to improve data accuracy and personalize recommendations.' Tying ATT to a user benefit instead of ads is the standard move to push opt-in up.

Notification ask led by benefit: 'timely and relevant reminders help create new habits.' They also tell you you can adjust how much and how frequent in settings, which defuses the spam fear before the prompt.

Loading screen that narrates the work: 364 nights analyzed, sleep need, sleep debt, energy levels. Labor illusion. The visible effort makes the result feel earned and reinforces that this is personalized to your data.

Personalized reveal: 'based on your sleep patterns, your sleep need is 9h,' plotted against Most People. This is the payoff for all the data they pulled. A specific number tied to your own data reads more credible than a generic eight-hours line.

They let you drag to adjust your sleep need 'until it feels more accurate to you.' Editing the number is a micro-commitment that makes the result yours and raises buy-in. Nice to hand the user some control over the algorithm's guess.

Introduces 'sleep debt' as the one number to track. Coining its own metric gives the app a reason to exist beyond a generic tracker, and 'now let's see how sleep defines your energy today' pulls you straight into the next reveal.

Email ask lands here, after the data reveal, framed as 'enter your email to save your progress.' Loss aversion (don't lose the work) plus it's deep enough that intent is high. Much better placement than gating signup up front.

Hands you a personal energy schedule for today with predicted peaks and dips. This is the aha: sleep data turned into something you can act on right now. Showing it before the paywall is what earns the price.

'Change your biology' carousel: 18 science-based methods like light therapy, caffeine control, melatonin. Sets up that Rise intervenes, not just tracks. The '1 of 2' counter signals the pitch is short before the ask.

Rise paywall with pricing, onboarding screen 7171
The paywall: 'Design your trial,' 7-day free trial default at $69.99/year ('just $5.83/mo'), with $4.99 monthly as the other option. Press logos (NYT, Harvard, ESPN) and 'join 1 million people' for authority and social proof. The 'Remind me before my trial ends' toggle is on by default, which lowers the cancel-anxiety that stops people from starting trials.

Tapping through pulls up payment collection: card now, 'you'll only be charged when your trial ends.' Taking payment upfront raises trial-to-paid because cancelling becomes an action you have to remember to take. The reminder toggle is the trust counterweight that keeps it from feeling like a trap.
