Logo, then the world. That is the entire onboarding.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 6: Tap play and you're in

6

Tap play and you're in. No account, no permission prompt, no tutorial, no value prop carousel, no paywall. In a batch where the median app wants an email before it shows you anything, Toca Boca asks for nothing at all.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 10: The onboarding is the map

10

The onboarding is the map. You pan across an entire illustrated world, city to beach to mountains to desert, and the panning teaches the interaction. A four year old doesn't read a tooltip, so the only tutorial that works is one where poking at things is the tutorial.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 21: 'Free gift' tags dotted on buildings across the map

21

'Free gift' tags dotted on buildings across the map. That's what turns aimless panning into a treasure hunt, and it gives a kid a reason to open every door. The free collectibles also quietly teach you which locations you don't own yet.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 39: Still panning, now past the beach and into the mountains

39

Still panning, now past the beach and into the mountains. The sheer size of the world is the pitch. Nobody had to write 'over 50 locations' on a screen, you just scroll past them.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 48: The desert end of the map

48

The desert end of the map. Five minutes in and there has still been no text of any kind. Worth sitting with, given how much copy every other app in this batch spends before letting you touch anything.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 55: Inside a location, and there's still no instruction

55

Inside a location, and there's still no instruction. Every object is tappable and draggable and nothing tells you so. The bet is that discovery beats explanation, and for this audience that's the right bet.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 57: A 'Saving' screen, the only moment the app admits it has state

57

A 'Saving' screen, the only moment the app admits it has state. No account means the save is local, which is a deliberate trade for a kids product where signup is both a legal problem and a parent problem.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 60: The only real words in sixty-two screens: 'Toca Boca x Conan Gray ends August 13th but you can keep Character…

60

The only real words in sixty-two screens: 'Toca Boca x Conan Gray ends August 13th but you can keep Character Creator styles and claimed gifts forever!' A celebrity collab with a hard deadline, plus a promise that what you claimed stays yours. Scarcity drives the session, permanence removes the regret. And note it's aimed over the kid's head at whoever in the house knows who Conan Gray is.

Toca Boca World onboarding screen 62: Back to the title

62

Back to the title. No signup, no paywall, no email captured, no permission asked. The monetization is entirely inside the world as locations and gifts, and the retention is the collab calendar.
