Course Hero onboarding screen 2: No onboarding at all

2

No onboarding at all. Splash, then straight into the scan tab. For a homework app that's defensible, intent is already high when someone opens it. The cost shows up immediately though: deny the camera and you're staring at 'Go to settings' with nothing else to do.

Course Hero onboarding screen 3: 'Do you love Course Hero?' inside the first minute, before you've done anything at all

3

'Do you love Course Hero?' inside the first minute, before you've done anything at all. This is the gated review prompt: Yes routes to the App Store, No routes to a private form. The gating is smart, the timing isn't. You're sampling sentiment from someone who doesn't have any yet.

Course Hero onboarding screen 4: The No branch, a feedback form with the four features as checkboxes

4

The No branch, a feedback form with the four features as checkboxes. Catching unhappy users before they reach the App Store is how you protect a rating. Worth noting they ask which feature gave you trouble when the real answer here was 'I never got past a camera permission'.

Signup deferred until you go looking for it, the opposite of Quizlet in this same batch. You get to poke around first and only hit the wall when you want something account shaped. 'University or college' in the form is zero-party data they can use to route course-specific content later.

Course Hero onboarding screen 9: Two free tutor questions for creating an account, with an expiry date printed on them

9

Two free tutor questions for creating an account, with an expiry date printed on them. Reciprocity plus a deadline. The gift lands at the same moment as the paywall, so the ask reads as 'use what you've been given' rather than 'pay us'.

Course Hero paywall with pricing, onboarding screen 10

10

Annual at $119.99 preselected against $24.99 monthly, with quarterly at $59.99 sitting in between. Quarterly is the decoy: $19.99 a month is barely under the monthly price, which makes annual's $9.99 the only sensible pick. No trial anywhere, so this is a cold ask at full price right after signup.

Course Hero onboarding screen 11: The tutor questions come back as a push notification, so the gift follows you out of the session

11

The tutor questions come back as a push notification, so the gift follows you out of the session. Cheap re-engagement hook tied to something you already think you own.
