"I'm learning during my lunch breaks instead of scrolling through Instagram" plus the Apple "Essential Education App" laurels. Testimonial framed as the behavior swap they want (replace doomscrolling with learning), and the Apple award does the premium-positioning work. Same laurel trick everyone borrows now.

13

"Set a daily learning goal" defaulting to Regular / 5 min, with "That's 75 bite-sized lessons in a month!" Good micro-commitment, and the 75-lessons reframe turns 5 minutes into a number that feels like real progress. Defaulting the middle option is classic anchoring.

14

"Goal set. People who commit to a goal learn more." A commitment-reinforcement beat with a little progress map. Cheap psychological investment before the ask. You've now got me on record wanting the goal.

15

"Want to invite a friend?… 4x more likely to achieve your goals," with a FREE 7-Day Guest Pass. This is the referral I'd kill for. Pure CAC math: if 15% of people send this, you just lowered acquisition cost 15%. Placing it pre-paywall while excitement is highest is the right moment.

16

17

18

"When will you fit learning into your day?" Morning / afternoon / evening. This is your notification opt-in dressed as a habit-design question. By picking a time I'm anticipating the reminder instead of being surprised by it, which lowers opt-outs. Frame the eventual push by the specific benefit, not "get the most out of Imprint."

19

"Just a moment while we personalize your Imprint experience…" The loading screen earns its keep. It shows the work being done for me and reinforces that all those questions are being turned into something. Don't make it too long.

22

"We offer 7 days free so everyone can learn on Imprint." A soft pre-paywall framing screen. It reframes the trial as access for everyone rather than a sales ask, lowering the guard right before the price hits. Nice warm-up.

Imprint onboarding screen 23: The paywall, fired post-quiz / pre-value:

23

The paywall, fired post-quiz / pre-value: "Try 7 days for free, then $8.33/month ($99.99 billed annually)." One plan surfaced, trial required, annual default with the per-month price doing the anchoring. There's a close X, so it's a soft wall, but I've experienced zero actual learning yet, which is the tension Imprint solves later by reopening onboarding after this.

24

"Choose your plan" sheet: Yearly with 7-day trial and "Save 48%" vs Monthly $15.99. Textbook decoy structuring. The monthly exists mostly to make $8.33/mo annual look obvious, and the three feature checks ("No ads or microtransactions") justify the price. This is where I'd test a segmented 2nd offer for the 90% who bounce.

25

26

27

"Create an account. Save your progress, sync across devices." Notice this lands AFTER the paywall, not before. They traded earlier signup (more attribution, more dropout) for a deeper, lower-friction account ask once I'm already committed. Reasonable tradeoff. Just know you're capturing the email late.

"Select a course. Start wherever you'd like," surfacing courses tied to the topics I picked. This is the start of the part Imprint is famous for: instead of dumping me on a blank home screen after the paywall, they hand me a concrete first action.

Imprint onboarding screen 55: And here's the payoff

55

And here's the payoff. An actual interactive lesson on air quality, swipeable and illustrated, not an explainer telling me Imprint is good. Remember all those quiz screens? Now I'm experiencing the value instead of being told about it. This is onboarding continuing past the paywall, done right.

"The Main Ideas" recap with a fill-in-the-blank ("PM2.5 from ___ poses the greatest risks"). A tiny active-recall interaction turns passive reading into a micro-win. That felt sense of progress is exactly what builds the trust that justifies the subscription.

62

"+25XP. Lesson Completed," with a Today's XP graph. Define this as your activation event: first lesson completed, not just "signed up." It's early, it's predictive, and it's the aha moment the whole flow exists to reach.

63

64

65

"Commit to learning. Setting a streak goal will help you stay committed," 7 / 14 / 30 / 50-day options. Streaks bolted onto the activation moment, right when I've just felt a win. The commit interaction raises buy-in for the retention loop that keeps me coming back to pay.

66

"Schedule your next sessions… we'll send you reminders," with a default 8:15 PM and "Put it on my calendar." This is the notification ask reframed as accountability, defaulted on, tied to the time I picked back on screen 18. Personalization continuity. Anticipated reminders cancel less.

67

68

69

"Almost there. Daily Goal 1/2 lessons," progress bar half full. Goal gradient again: I'm one lesson from my self-set daily goal, so the pull to finish the second one is strong. Closing the onboarding on "you're halfway to a streak" is a clean handoff into the habit.
