3

The ATT prompt on screen three, with their own explainer sitting above Apple's dialog: 'to bring more users like you to Rock Identifier'. Honest framing, and your own copy in front of the system text is the only lever you get on this prompt.

Rock Identifier paywall with pricing, onboarding screen 5

'Design Your Trial' is a strong name for this pattern. Framing the paywall as something you configure rather than something you're shown hands back a little control on the screen where the user has the least. Free 7 days preselected, one month at $1.99 as the alternative, real terms at the bottom: $29.99 a year after the trial. The 'Remind me before the trial ends' toggle is the part worth stealing. It costs some involuntary conversions and buys back chargebacks and one-star reviews.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 6: 'Tap here to identify your stone' as a coach mark on the camera button, straight after the paywall

6

'Tap here to identify your stone' as a coach mark on the camera button, straight after the paywall. One instruction pointing at one control, and that's the entire tutorial. This is what activation guidance should look like.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 7: 'Your free 7-day Premium hasn't been claimed yet

7

'Your free 7-day Premium hasn't been claimed yet. Tap to claim.' pinned to the top of home after you decline. Reframing a declined paywall as an unclaimed gift instead of an upsell, so it's loss aversion pointed at something you never actually had.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 8: The home feed is a content library: gem guides, Real vs Fake comparisons, articles, ID method videos

8

The home feed is a content library: gem guides, Real vs Fake comparisons, articles, ID method videos. Most identifier apps hand you a camera and an empty screen. Filling day one with browsable content gives someone a reason to open the app on a day they don't have a rock in their hand.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 18: 'A community filled with Stone lovers!' with a Join Us button pointing at Facebook

18

'A community filled with Stone lovers!' with a Join Us button pointing at Facebook. Sending an engaged user off to a platform you don't own, from inside your own app, is a strange trade. The retention is real, the ownership isn't.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 23: An AI chat opening with 'Valuation' and 'Identify' as starting chips

23

An AI chat opening with 'Valuation' and 'Identify' as starting chips. Same move as Chegg's prompt chips elsewhere in this batch. Never show a blank input box to a new user.

Rock Identifier onboarding screen 24: 'Rate your satisfaction (1-5)' inside the first minute, before a single rock has been identified

24

'Rate your satisfaction (1-5)' inside the first minute, before a single rock has been identified. Course Hero pulls the same trick in this batch. You're sampling sentiment from someone who hasn't formed any, and if it routes to the App Store you're spending your rating on a coin flip.
